António Modesto Nunes was born in Ponte do Abade, Aguiar da Beira, in 1957. He studied art and design at the Porto School of Fine Arts — now the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Porto — where he was a professor from 1983 until his retirement in 2023.
In parallel with his teaching career, he is a researcher (member of ID+), designer and illustrator, author and co-author of multiple artefacts and publications in the areas of graphic and editorial design, illustration, visual identity, packaging, equipment and interior design, for which he has received several awards and distinctions. He is co-author of the Expo 98 mascot and the manual most widely used by schools in Portugal for teaching Visual Education in the 3rd cycle of basic education.
He was artistic director of his own design studio until 2012.
