Tiago Manuel

Born in 1955 in Viana do Castelo. He trained as an artist under the masters Aníbal Alcino and Júlio Resende. His work has been exhibited in Portugal and abroad in leading institutions and galleries. He has received several awards. Recent exhibitions: Mishima, Manifesto de Lâminas, Centro Cultural de Belém, Lisbon, 2008 - Galeria Spectrum Sotos, Zaragoza, 2008 - Galeria Palmira Suso, Lisbon, 2007 - Lugar do Desenho, Fundação Júlio Resende, Gondomar, 2002. Recent group exhibitions: Arco, Casa da Cerca, Almada, 2008 - Stuart Prize, Lisbon, 2007, 2006, 2004 - Lisbon Illustration and Comic Strip Exhibition (Lisbon Comic Strip Library / Lisbon City Council), 2004, 2002, 2001, 2000. As an illustrator, he has published in the newspapers Público, Expresso, Jornal de Letras, Letras & Letras, O Diário, in the magazines Colóquio/Letras da Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian, Ler-Círculo de Leitores and in the publishing houses Âmbar, ASA, Afrontamento, Media Vaca (Valencia) and Bertrand, among others. Latest works: ‘O sangue por um fio’ (Blood on a Thread), a book of poetry by Sérgio Godinho, Assírio & Alvim, Lisbon, 2009 - Poster for the film ‘Ruínas’ (Ruins) by Manuel Mozos, IndieLisboa Festival, 2009. Since 2000, he has published 7 of his 25 heteronyms (12 books). In 2008, he created and began directing the comic book series ‘O Filme da minha Vida’ (The Film of my Life), published by the Audiovisual Production and Animation Association AO NORTE, Viana do Castelo.
